en.Wedoany.com Reported - Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) plans to acquire an 80% stake in Italian aluminum recycling company Eco Green. This is the latest development in the company's global expansion and the growth of its aluminum recycling business in Europe.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, stated: "At EGA, we are rapidly advancing the construction of a global aluminum recycling business while simultaneously expanding our primary aluminum production. Upon completion of the transaction, Eco Green will bring EGA coverage and expertise in the European aluminum scrap market, marking an important step in establishing our recycling business on the European continent and contributing to a green future for Europe. Eco Green will also increase its recycled aluminum production in northeastern Italy, which we can further develop as part of EGA."
Eco Green was founded in 1993 by the Scappini family. It is a family-run recycling business specializing in aluminum scrap collection, sorting, casting, and dross processing, with a total annual distribution volume exceeding 70,000 tonnes. The company's facility in Villafranca di Verona, located in northeastern Italy, collects, sorts, and distributes approximately 23,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap annually. Part of the sorted scrap is supplied to Eco Green's adjacent facility in Nogara di Verona, which casts over 20,000 tonnes of recycled aluminum ingots annually and processes dross.
Eco Green serves over 60 customers in Europe, primarily in the aluminum processing and semi-finished products sectors, with end-users covering automotive, construction, and other industrial fields. The company has established a scrap procurement network of over 350 suppliers, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality scrap. The company employs 70 people, and its current management team is expected to remain in place after the transaction is completed.
The company is currently advancing the expansion of its Nogara di Verona plant, which will add 15,000 tonnes of annual recycled aluminum production capacity, expected to be completed in early second half of 2026.
Luca Scappini, CEO of Eco Green, stated: "Becoming part of the world's largest producer of 'premium aluminum' will unlock Eco Green's growth potential, enabling us to further upgrade our plants and expand our scrap supply and customer network across Europe. EGA is already a major primary aluminum supplier to Europe, and we look forward to contributing to EGA's rapidly growing recycling business on the European continent."
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals. Upon completion, Eco Green will bring EGA's total recycling capacity in the UAE, Europe, and the US to over 400,000 tonnes per year.
Analysts predict that global demand for recycled aluminum will double by 2040, accounting for approximately 60% of global aluminum supply growth between 2023 and 2030, and about 70% between 2030 and 2040. Excluding Russia, Europe is the world's third-largest recycled aluminum market, after the United States and China. Recycled aluminum currently meets about 40% of Europe's total aluminum demand, with various industries consuming approximately 4.9 million tonnes in 2025. According to CRU, demand is expected to grow to approximately 7.2 million tonnes by 2033.
EGA has made significant investments in global aluminum recycling capacity over the past few years. The company started up and operates the UAE's largest aluminum recycling plant in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi. In late February 2026, the plant began producing cast metal with an annual capacity of 185,000 tonnes. However, the plant is currently shut down due to Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi. EGA has also acquired aluminum recycling facilities in Germany and the United States, with expansion projects at both locations expected to add 200,000 tonnes of capacity. In May 2024, EGA acquired Leichtmetall, a German specialty foundry producing high-strength recycled aluminum. In December 2025, EGA announced an expansion project that will increase the recycling capacity of the German plant more than sixfold, adding 110,000 tonnes of annual scrap sorting capacity and 153,000 tonnes of melting and casting capacity, with an investment of approximately $170 million and first metal expected in 2028. In September 2024, EGA acquired US-based recycling company Spectro Alloys in Minnesota, completing the first phase of expansion in July 2025, bringing total capacity to 165,000 tonnes per year of recycled aluminum ingots and billets. The second phase of expansion is underway, which will add another 35,000 tonnes of billet capacity, with first metal expected in 2027.
EGA exports over 600,000 tonnes of primary aluminum annually from the UAE to Europe, supplying key sectors such as automotive and construction, and sells recycled aluminum globally under the RevivAL brand.
