en.Wedoany.com Reported - South Korea's Wonkwang Electric Power Co., Ltd. (원광전력㈜) announced that it will participate as a commissioned R&D institution in the "Development of Low-Cost, Lightweight Prefabricated BIPV Roof Unit System for Green Retrofitting of Old Factories" project led by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT).

Wonkwang Electric Power CEO Jeon Yeon-soo (전연수)

This project aims to develop a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roof unit system based on prefabricated components, enabling more economical and efficient installation of photovoltaic power generation equipment on old factory roofs. Traditional photovoltaic equipment faces limitations in application to aging buildings, primarily due to high structural reinforcement costs and heavy construction burdens. The new system utilizes factory-prefabricated lightweight and modular roof units that can be directly installed on-site.

Participating institutions will jointly advance the lightweight and low-cost design of roof units, prefabrication manufacturing technology, on-site installation methods, as well as related demonstration and performance verification plans.

Wonkwang Electric Power CEO Jeon Yeon-soo (전연수) stated that the company will actively engage in R&D to secure technical capabilities in the BIPV field and contribute to the eco-friendly energy transition of old industrial facilities and the achievement of carbon neutrality goals.
