The acquisition was funded by a $750,000 grant from the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning, with the remainder drawn from WCP reserves.

Dick Kennison, Chairman of the WCP Board of Commissioners, stated that this acquisition is significant for the port, its tenants, and the expanding industrial community in Southwest Louisiana. The two parcels of land are located on the south side of the GIWW, helping the port address two key needs: increasing barge fleeting space and expanding on-site dredge spoil receiving capacity. Kennison expects this will nearly double the port's available barge fleeting space.

With large-scale petrochemical, LNG, energy, and other construction projects underway in the Southwest Louisiana region, the expanded barge fleeting area will support growing barge traffic, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the region's maritime transportation infrastructure.

Port tenants include Southern Devall Towing, VLS Environmental Marine Services, and Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, providing services such as barge fleeting, wet dock cleaning/cleaning/repair/inspection, and diesel engine repair, supporting the growth of the Southwest Louisiana industrial landscape.

WCP is located two miles west of the Calcasieu River Waterway, supporting maritime operations along 2.1 miles of GIWW waterfront.
