en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 10, NTT announced the establishment of a fund to invest in AI startups, named "IOWN AI Fund," with an estimated scale of approximately 80 billion yen. More than 20 companies are considering investing.

The fund's investment targets include semiconductors for AI computing, cooling technologies to reduce data center power consumption, software for efficient AI operation, and AI application services in fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, and finance—essentially covering all technological aspects that underpin AI infrastructure. The fund will focus on mid-stage startups in the technology commercialization and monetization phase, with investment scope covering companies in North America, Asia, and Europe.
The fund was co-initiated by American investor Young Sohn, South Korea's SK Group, Taiwan's telecommunications operator Chunghwa Telecom, and Japan's Development Bank of Japan. For operations, a new company named "Catalight Capital" will be established in Silicon Valley, USA, and Tokyo. Companies such as Fujitsu, KDDI, NEC, Sony Group, South Korea's Samsung Electronics, and US-based GlobalFoundries have expressed interest in participating in the investment.
IOWN is a next-generation network infrastructure being developed by NTT. NTT President Akira Shimada noted that as AI becomes more widespread, the importance of infrastructure is increasing. Through the IOWN AI Fund, NTT will advance business collaborations with promising startups and work with global partners to build the IOWN ecosystem.
