en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 200MW/400MWh Yunrong Independent Energy Storage Project in Qingdao, Shandong, China, achieved full capacity grid connection on July 27, 2026. The project, undertaken as an EPC general contract by the consortium led by Dongfang Xuneng (Shandong) Technology Development Co., Ltd., has become a benchmark case in the field of new energy storage.

As a key energy storage demonstration project in Shandong Province, it is located in the Qingdao Rail Transit Industry Demonstration Zone, with a total investment exceeding 400 million yuan and covering an area of approximately 32.4 mu. The project plans to construct a 200MW/400MWh lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage system, with both the battery system and step-up system adopting an outdoor container layout, built in a single phase. The site is divided into three functional areas: the energy storage area, the step-up area, and the office area. The energy storage area is equipped with 53 sets of energy storage and supporting step-up systems, while the 220kV step-up substation houses one 240MVA main transformer, along with supporting electrical equipment such as 220kV GIS. Upon completion, the project can achieve one charge and one discharge cycle per day, with the energy storage resources being dispatched 330 times annually. It is expected to provide approximately 110 million kWh of clean electricity to the grid, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 31,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by over 60,000 tons.

During the initial construction phase, the project faced complex challenges, including difficulties in coordinating external lines, varying requirements for project-related procedures across different authorities, and an interconnected approval process. The Dongfang Xuneng project team proactively engaged with various government departments and the grid company, systematically reviewing approval milestones and resolving coordination bottlenecks. At the same time, they scientifically planned the construction schedule, racing against time during the electrical installation and system commissioning phases, working overtime to advance the tasks. During the quality inspection and rectification phase, the team adhered to the principle of resolving issues on the same day they arose, often working until early morning to complete rectifications and close out items. With a delivery capability characterized by zero failures and high standards, they achieved a complete closed loop from construction to operation.

Dongfang Xuneng has already delivered multiple hundred-megawatt-level energy storage projects in Shandong. From the commissioning of the Laixi 100MW/200MWh shared energy storage station at the beginning of the year to the full capacity grid connection of the Qingdao Yunrong 200MW/400MWh project mid-year, the company continues to drive the green transformation of regional energy in the field of large-scale new energy storage development.
