en.Wedoany.com Reported - Norwegian shipbuilder Vard has secured a contract to design and build a new stern trawler for local fishing company Rosund Drift.

The new vessel is based on an existing stern trawler design, which has been proven in operational examples at several Norwegian fishing companies.

The vessel will be optimized for semi-pelagic and bottom trawling operations, aiming to achieve gentle fish handling, high-quality product output, and reduced environmental impact.

The trawler will be equipped with an advanced hybrid propulsion and energy system to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. It will feature flexible storage solutions and silage tanks for biomass processing to maximize the utilization of marine resources, along with a shrimp processing plant equipped with cooking capabilities.

The new vessel will have an overall length of approximately 80.4 meters, a beam of 16.7 meters, and an ice-strengthened hull. Its electrical system will adopt Vard Electro's integrated SeaQ solution, including the SeaQ Energy Storage System and a fully integrated energy management system.

The vessel will also be equipped with advanced bridge systems and deck handling equipment to ensure safe operations under harsh conditions. The modern accommodation areas on board are designed to high standards, focusing on comfort, safety, and crew welfare, with complete living and recreational spaces.

The hull will be built at Vard Shipyards Romania, while outfitting, commissioning, and final delivery are scheduled to be completed at Vard Brattvaag in Norway in the third quarter of 2028.
