en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA), and the Korea Cable TV Association (KCTA) announced on the 15th that they will unify the compensation application and processing system for public electricity costs of internet devices in common residential buildings such as apartments and villas.

Internet distribution equipment installed in common residential buildings uses public electricity, and the cost should, in principle, be borne by the relevant operators. However, some residents of common residential buildings are still paying these costs, a issue that has drawn attention from the National Assembly and the media. In November last year, the Ministry of Science and ICT formed a task force with KTOA, KCTA, and telecommunications operators. Based on a pilot survey, it established a comprehensive survey and compensation promotion plan for public electricity usage of internet devices in common residential buildings in January this year, and encouraged four comprehensive cable broadcasting operators to participate, conducting a full survey and compensation for 144,000 devices.

As a measure to prevent recurrence, a compensation application management system and a dedicated center have been established, and the unified operation of the compensation application and processing system for public electricity costs of internet devices begins today. Previously, management entities had to consult and apply individually through each operator's customer service center, but now they can complete the process by logging into the compensation application management system alone. Management entities of public electricity, such as building owners, general affairs personnel, and entrusted management companies, can log into the system to register management entity information, building details, and photos of each operator's equipment after verifying devices like public terminal boxes and centralized communication rooms.

In addition to providing compensation application services, the compensation application management system will serve as a foundation for the unified and continuous management of internet device operation status, including operator compensation contract management, management entity information management, on-site survey history management, and new device management, to prevent similar cases from recurring. The dedicated center will handle inquiries, provide application service guidance, and support management entities unfamiliar with internet usage to apply easily. Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Information Protection and Network Policy Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated that with the official launch of the dedicated center and the compensation application management system, the progress of public electricity cost compensation will be accelerated, and systematic management will be implemented to prevent residents from bearing the public electricity costs of internet devices again.
