en.Wedoany.com Reported - Polish network operator Fixmap Group is advancing the technical integration of its nationwide network infrastructure, aiming to consolidate the networks of its nearly 30 regional companies into a unified transmission and aggregation system. Group Chief Technology Officer Piotr Srebniak stated that the integration process has now reached 80% completion.

Fixmap Group currently covers approximately 170,000 customers and 500,000 households. Following investment from Arcus Fund, technical integration has been prioritized. Srebniak explained that once the business reaches a certain scale, what individual companies cannot achieve alone due to size and geographic limitations can be realized through the group as a whole. The quantitative indicator for this scale is the IP traffic level across its entire network, currently at 200 GB.

The integration began at the highest level of IP traffic management, followed by the construction of national and regional backbone networks, largely based on proprietary infrastructure, while deploying a new internet access platform. To this end, Fixmap established two aggregation points, or points of presence (POPs), in Warsaw and Katowice. All regional companies are redundantly connected to these two nodes, which peer with each other and can independently handle the group's entire traffic. The architecture adopts a spine-leaf structure, enabling rapid integration of subsequent entities. Currently, Fixmap handles over 500 Gbit/s of IP traffic.

In terms of commercial relationships, Fixmap has signed contracts with Tier 1 providers, major content providers such as Netflix and Google, and key international operators, and has connected to major traffic exchange nodes including foreign C-IX and D-IX. The group's strategy is to build private interconnections to deliver required traffic directly to customers. A recent example is the initiation of peering with Akamai. Additionally, Fixmap tracks traffic categories that, while not dominant in percentage terms, have a fixed user base, such as gaming server traffic. By building its network in this way, Fixmap aims to avoid the inefficient solutions adopted by large telecom operators due to historical reasons.
