en.Wedoany.com Reported - NetApp announced on the 15th an expanded partnership with Cisco and the release of new security features to support customers in strengthening their Defense-in-Depth strategy.

The two companies are integrating advanced analytics and observability capabilities into intelligent data infrastructure, providing real-time visibility into the storage and infrastructure layers. Customers can leverage operational data to improve reliability and security while managing their IT environments more efficiently.

A key outcome of this expanded collaboration is the launch of the new NetApp Splunk SOAR Playbook. With this tool, customers can more effectively block ransomware attacks, reduce data loss, limit the scope of attack impact, and accelerate recovery processes.

The playbook operates on top of the integrated Splunk Enterprise Security and NetApp Ransomware Resilience features. Splunk SOAR users can collect analytical information and various security signals from the data layer to automatically execute response actions on NetApp ONTAP storage. These actions include blocking suspicious user access, creating data snapshots, and taking data volumes offline to prevent further infection, thereby more efficiently containing ransomware spread and reducing the risk of data loss.

This feature also helps strengthen collaboration between security teams and storage operations teams. By automating the response and recovery process for cyber threats, key security team metrics, such as Mean Time to Contain (MTTC), are improved, while reducing the manual operations and technical burden required for data protection.

"To minimize the damage caused by ransomware, action must be taken immediately upon threat detection, which means security automation must extend to the storage layer," said Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Platform Business Unit at NetApp. "By partnering with Cisco to enable Splunk SOAR workflows to directly execute actions on data within NetApp ONTAP storage, we help customers implement a defense-in-depth strategy more easily and effectively."

"An effective security strategy must cover the entire IT infrastructure, including the data layer, to ensure visibility and response capability," noted David Dalling, Group Vice President of the Splunk Security Division at Cisco. "With the new NetApp Splunk SOAR Playbook, ONTAP storage is tightly integrated with the security operations system, enabling a more effective response to threats targeting enterprise data."

"The partnership between NetApp and Splunk allows customers to operate their businesses more securely and efficiently, while enhancing collaboration between storage operations and security teams," said Dallas Olson, Chief Business Officer at NetApp. "We will continue to support customers in gaining real-time visibility across their entire IT environment, achieving data-driven business outcomes with minimal service disruption."

Through this collaboration, NetApp and Cisco plan to further strengthen the data protection system that integrates storage, security operations, and infrastructure observability. Enterprises can thereby shorten ransomware response times and implement a defense-in-depth strategy covering the data layer in a more automated manner.
