en.Wedoany.com Reported - Changan Automobile has recently launched the 2026 Hunter K50 range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) dual-row pickup, featuring upgrades to the battery and powertrain.

The new Hunter K50 offers a 43.47 kWh lithium-ion battery pack option, achieving an NEDC electric-only range of 192 km and a combined range of over 1,000 km. This electric-only range surpasses that of any plug-in hybrid pickup currently on sale in Australia, including the BYD Shark 6, GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV, and Ford Ranger Hybrid. Meanwhile, some variants retain the 31.18 kWh battery pack, corresponding to an electric range of 131 km.

The vehicle is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine as a range extender, which does not directly drive the wheels but only generates electricity. Propulsion is handled by one (rear-wheel drive) or two (all-wheel drive) electric motors. The dual-motor all-wheel drive version boosts system combined power to 240 kW, while the standard range version delivers 200 kW.

The vehicle-to-load (V2L) function has also been upgraded in this model year update, increasing power from 3.3 kW to 22 kW.

Changan has not yet entered the Australian market under its own brand, but its Deepal brand is already being imported and distributed by Inchcape. The standard range Hunter has previously been sold in South Africa, and the vehicle is available in right-hand drive, paving the way for entry into the Australian market. Changan has also sold the same REEV pickup under the Deepal brand in Thailand. Additionally, as part of the Changan Mazda joint venture, several Changan models have been rebadged as Mazda, including the upcoming Mazda 6e and CX-6e in Australia. Although neither company has confirmed it, a Mazda-branded REEV pickup may be under development, serving as a low-emission alternative or successor to the Mazda BT-50, which is based on the Isuzu D-Max. Notably, Isuzu has detailed an electric version of the D-Max, but Mazda has not done the same for the BT-50, which remains diesel-only. Senior Mazda Australia executives have recently denied claims that a Mazda-badged version of the Deepal E07 electric pickup/SUV is under development.
