en.Wedoany.com Reported - CBH Group (the largest cooperative in Australia) is upgrading its grain receival site in Mingenew, Western Australia, installing permanent storage facilities and improving receival efficiency to better support growers in the Geraldton Zone. The site is a key location in the company's export supply chain.
CBH stated that the project will add 270,000 tonnes of storage capacity, bringing the site's total capacity to 710,000 tonnes, helping to replace low-grade storage and ensuring the site can continue to serve growers in the Mingenew catchment area.
The Mingenew project includes: constructing seven open bulk storage sheds, providing 270,000 tonnes of storage capacity; installing two new 500-tonne-per-hour screw pits and conveyor loading systems to serve the new permanent storage; replacing the existing sample hut with a double-pole Type 11 sample hut, increasing the number of available poles from two to three; and improving drainage, main power works, and site facilities.
CBH noted that the upgrade will enhance site efficiency and increase reliable permanent storage capacity at its largest inland receival site in Zone 2. By adding on-site permanent capacity, the project will help reduce reliance on low-grade storage and temporary harvest-only measures, while upgraded fixed loading equipment and improved sampling infrastructure will help shorten cycle times.
"For growers, this means greater confidence that the site can continue to operate during larger and faster harvest periods, helping to reduce delays and minimize the risk of unharvested crops during peak times," said Colette Newton, CBH Geraldton Zone Manager.
The Mingenew upgrade is part of CBH's broader network plan to improve capacity, efficiency, and grower services across the network in support of its Path to 2033 Strategy. CBH's storage and receival system receives and exports approximately 90% of Western Australia's grain harvest, including wheat, barley, canola, and oats. Since 2022, CBH has been investing in its supply chain capacity as part of its strategy to achieve a peak output capacity of 3 million tonnes per month.
"Mingenew is a key site in our Geraldton Zone network, and this investment is about ensuring we can continue to support growers with reliable, efficient receival capacity now and in the future," said Nelson Aylmore, CBH Network Planning Lead. "By installing permanent storage, upgrading loading equipment, and improving sampling and traffic flow, this project will help boost growers' harvest efficiency while strengthening the overall network's performance."
