en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ocean Network Express has introduced a new service, the Iberia Baltic Express, establishing the first direct shipping connection between ports in Latvia and Portugal.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has officially launched a new weekly container shipping service, named the Iberia Baltic Express (IBX). The route calls at the Port of Riga in Latvia, establishing a direct maritime link between the country and Portugal. The new service expands ONE's network coverage in the Baltic region, offering Latvian importers and exporters more convenient access to European and global markets.

The IBX rotation is: Leixões, Lisbon, Southampton, Rotterdam, Gdańsk, Riga, Klaipėda, Gdynia, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, and then back to Leixões, with a weekly call at the Port of Riga. Transit time from Portuguese ports to Riga is approximately one week, while cargo from Rotterdam can arrive in Riga in about four days.

The IBX service builds on ONE's existing Baltic operations. In January 2025, ONE launched the Baltic Bridge Express, connecting Baltic and Finnish ports to Rotterdam. The new route further integrates Portugal, the UK, and other European hub ports into ONE's Baltic service network, significantly expanding regional coverage.

The Port of Riga is the only port in Latvia with regular container shipping services and a dedicated container terminal. Currently, nine international container liner vessels call at the port, operating 11 routes—a historic record for the port. In 2025, the Port of Riga handled 495,700 TEU of container throughput, accounting for 98% of all container cargo volume in Latvian ports. Containers represent approximately 30% of the port's total cargo volume and have been designated as a strategic development priority. The launch of the IBX service further increases the frequency and geographic coverage of the port's container network.
