en.Wedoany.com Reported - JSW Energy has acquired the entire equity of Maruti Clean Coal and Power Ltd (MCCPL) for Rs 14.1 billion, expanding its thermal power portfolio. The company has signed a definitive agreement to make MCCPL a wholly owned subsidiary, a move aligned with its long-term capacity expansion strategy.

MCCPL operates a 300 MW thermal power plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. Most of the plant's generation capacity is tied to long-term power purchase agreements, with 195 MW supplied to distribution companies in Rajasthan through PTC India. The remaining contract tenure is nearly 14 years, providing stable revenue expectations.

In addition to contracted supply, a small portion of the plant's output is sold to the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company at variable costs, while the remaining capacity is marketed through the commercial power segment. The plant secures fuel supply through a long-term coal linkage with South Eastern Coalfields Ltd and receives allocation support under the government's SHAKTI scheme.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen JSW Energy's thermal power base and support its target of achieving 30 GW of generation capacity by 2030. Upon completion of the transaction, MCCPL will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy. With the addition of the Korba plant, JSW Energy's installed thermal capacity will increase to 5,958 MW, and its total installed and under-development thermal portfolio will rise to 10,958 MW, further consolidating its position in India's power sector.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026, subject to obtaining necessary regulatory approvals and lender consent.
