en.Wedoany.com Reported - Nigeria's Minister of Works, David Umahi, stated that the flagship infrastructure projects led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration are expected to significantly enhance the country's agricultural productivity.

Umahi made these remarks during an inspection of major federal government projects in Ebonyi State by the Presidential Communication Team. The inspection was part of the "Renewed Hope Media Tour (Renewed Hope Media Tour)" in the Southeast, led by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The delegation also included the President's Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, and other presidential aides responsible for media and public engagement.

The inspection team departed from the Government House in Abakaliki. Onanuga stated that the event aimed to provide Nigerians with direct insight into ongoing infrastructure projects across the country. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru received the delegation and ensured security for the inspection. He commended the federal government's infrastructure investments in Ebonyi State and the broader Southeast region.

The delegation inspected the ongoing construction of the Calabar-Abuja Trans-Saharan Superhighway, including a 90-meter connecting bridge in Lot 1 and concrete pavement work on the Onueke axis. They also visited the 1.3-kilometer Ndi-Egbe Bridge in Afikpo Local Government Area. This bridge, connecting Ebonyi State to Cross River State, is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The Calabar-Abuja corridor, passing through Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa States, and the Federal Capital Territory, is being developed as a major economic and transportation artery. Umahi explained that Lot 1 of the project was initially designed as a 118-kilometer single carriageway but was later expanded to a 123.6-kilometer dual carriageway, costing 445 billion Naira. He stated that procurement for the dual carriageway section is underway, while Lot 2 will extend through Ebonyi State into Benue and Kogi States, terminating at the Loko-Oweto Bridge in Nasarawa State.

Umahi noted that these infrastructure projects are expected to support agriculture by improving road access for agricultural products, strengthening market linkages, and facilitating regional trade flows. He also mentioned that the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway will include over 73 dams to support irrigation farming. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other road projects will improve connectivity and create agricultural investment opportunities.

Umahi emphasized that these projects reflect the government's broader strategy to stimulate agricultural production, create jobs, and strengthen the food system through improved infrastructure. The inspection team also visited completed sections of the Ebonyi-Cross River link road, extending from Okposi-Ukawu to Ugwulangu-Abaomege. Umahi concluded that continued investment in road and water infrastructure remains key to unlocking Nigeria's agricultural potential and revitalizing rural economies.
