en.Wedoany.com Reported - RWE's Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm has completed all inter-array cable installation works, with a total of 48 cables laid, buried, terminated, and tested.

Tobias Keitel, Chief Technical Officer of RWE Offshore Wind GmbH, stated on social media that while cables are less conspicuous than foundations, substations, or turbines, this work package is one of the most coordination-intensive aspects of an offshore wind farm, involving four vessels and over two hundred personnel working simultaneously across various locations.

The approximately 185 km of 66 kV aluminum and copper core cables, supplied by Hellenic Cables and installed by DeepOcean, connect the turbines to two offshore substations, which were installed earlier this year.

This month, the installation of the first turbine began at the project site, carried out by DEME's vessel "Norse Wind," which can transport and install up to five turbines per cycle.

The 660 MW Nordseecluster A will comprise 44 Vestas 15 MW turbines, with all installations expected to be completed by the end of 2026. As the first phase of the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster development project, the wind farm is anticipated to achieve full commercial operation by early 2027.

The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add 900 MW of capacity, bringing the total project scale to 1.6 GW. Foundation installation at the second site is scheduled to begin next year, followed by the installation of 60 Vestas 15 MW turbines in 2028. This phase is expected to reach commercial operation by early 2029.

Located approximately 50 km north of the island of Juist, the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster is jointly owned by RWE (51% stake) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49% stake), with RWE responsible for construction and long-term operation throughout the entire lifecycle.
