en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, jointly inaugurated three train services, including the Chhapra-Delhi Express, the Mau-Delhi Express, and the extension of the Doharighat-Aunrihar train service to Varanasi City. The inauguration ceremony was held at Chhapra Junction.
The newly launched express trains are expected to provide travel options for thousands of passengers while enhancing connectivity between Chhapra, Ballia, Mau, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Sudanpur, Sultanpur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, and Delhi, forming a transport corridor covering northern India.
During the ceremony, the 51st WDG4G locomotive, manufactured at the Marhaura Loco Plant, was also flagged off for export to the Republic of Guinea. Vaishnaw stated that this launch fulfilled a commitment made during a public event in Doharighat on May 11, 2026. He emphasized that railway allocations for Bihar have increased significantly in recent years, driving progress in new lines, doubling and multi-tracking projects, road overbridges, station redevelopment, and passenger amenities. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 98 stations in Bihar are undergoing modernization. Additionally, the state currently boasts one of the largest networks of Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains in India.
Vaishnaw outlined several major projects under implementation, including the new Vikramshila-Kataria railway line with a bridge over the Ganges, the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul railway development, the Sitamarhi-Darbhanga doubling project, the Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur doubling project, the Bhagalpur-Jamalpur tripling project, the Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampur Hat corridor upgrade, and the Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir-Tilaiya doubling project. He stated that these projects will enhance railway capacity and create conditions for adding nearly 200 new trains in Bihar over the next seven to eight years.
Vaishnaw revealed plans for a high-speed rail network connecting Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, and Siliguri. Once this corridor becomes operational, travel time from Delhi to Patna could be reduced to 4 hours and 41 minutes. He also noted that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project is expected to be operational next year, and the government has approved seven new high-speed rail corridors to expand the future network.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the day as significant for the state and pointed out that railway projects currently under execution in Bihar are valued at over 1 trillion rupees. He also stated that 36 of the state's 38 districts are now connected by rail, with capacity enhancement works continuing across the state.
