en.Wedoany.com Reported - SNCF Réseau has announced the launch of the RESIST project (RESIlience des Structures en Terre, meaning resilience of earth structures) to address the challenges posed by climate change to railway infrastructure. In partnership with the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), the project aims to enhance the robustness of railway embankments exposed to flooding by designing structures capable of absorbing hydraulic stress, limiting damage, and enabling rapid restoration of traffic. The first phase of preparation has been completed on a non-operational section of the Narbonne-Bize line, where a dedicated test site has been established.

The first phase of preparation included the construction of a 50-cubic-meter recovery/supply basin at the toe of the embankment to collect and control water used for simulated flooding, as well as the installation of track slabs in the future test channel to realistically simulate the presence of rails. The project is scheduled to enter the testing phase under real conditions from June 15 to 19, 2026, during which two test channels will be built on the non-operational section of the Narbonne-Bize line to observe the performance of structures during major flood events. These tests aim to compare theoretical models with on-site actual conditions to verify the reliability of the designs.
