Nofar and Qcells to Develop 350MW Energy Storage Projects in Texas

Wedoany.com Report-Mar 24, Nofar USA, a subsidiary of Nofar Energy, and Qcells USA, a subsidiary of Hanwha Qcells, have signed an agreement to develop and construct two energy storage projects in the US state of Texas.

The collaboration combines Qcells’ development expertise with Nofar’s financial and operational capabilities.

The two projects, Bracero Pecan and Fairway, will have a combined capacity of 350MW and a total output of 700 megawatt hours (MWh).

Bracero Pecan, with a capacity of 230MW/460MWh, is located in Reeves County while Fairway, with a capacity of 120MW/240MWh, is located in Freestone County.

The projects are in the final stages of interconnection approvals. They are strategically positioned to enhance grid resiliency and support Texas’ renewable energy landscape.

Bracero Pecan will connect to American Electric Power (AEP) and Fairway will connect with Oncor Electric Delivery Company (Oncor).

The partnership brings together Qcells’ development expertise with Nofar’s financial and operational strengths.

Qcells USA president IP Kim stated: “We are proud to collaborate on creating an opportunity to advance Nofar USA in the US. These projects will bring a host of benefits to the Texas power grid, and to the markets where they will be built.”

Qcells has originated and developed the projects and will support their further development and deployment.

As sponsor and sole owner, Nofar intends to begin construction on the projects later in 2025, with plans to have them operational by 2027.

In December 2024, Hanwha Qcells Georgia secured a $1.45bn loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office for the development of a solar supply chain facility in Cartersville, Georgia.
