en.Wedoany.com Reported - Elon Musk is pushing his space exploration company SpaceX to acquire Mesh Optical Technologies, a startup founded last year by three former SpaceX engineers that primarily develops hardware for high-speed data center communications.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk speaks via video before ringing the opening bell for his company's initial public offering (IPO) at the Nasdaq market on June 12, 2026

The acquisition intent was revealed in a recently disclosed document from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), first reported by Bloomberg. The document shows that the agency has expedited its antitrust review of the deal.

Mesh Optical emerged from stealth mode in February, announcing at the time that it had secured a $50 million Series A funding round led by Thrive Capital.

Before founding Mesh Optical, its co-founders Travis Brashears, Cameron Ramos, and Serena Grown-Haeberli developed optical communication links used to maintain connectivity among SpaceX's thousands of Starlink satellites.

Mesh's three co-founders saw an opportunity to develop optical transceivers for ground-based data centers, as light-based hardware operates faster and consumes less energy than traditional electrical-based systems.

SpaceX has recently reached agreements with Anthropic, Google, and open-source AI developer Reflection AI to provide computing power in its data centers, generating a significant revenue stream for the newly public company. Acquiring Mesh could ultimately enable SpaceX to improve the efficiency of its data centers, whether located on Earth or in space.
