en.Wedoany.com Reported - Komatsu Ltd. is accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence globally, having officially launched a large-scale AI implementation process covering the entire value chain—from R&D and production to sales and service—while strengthening the corresponding promotion system.
For a long time, Komatsu has been continuously building expertise in information communication technology and data applications through solutions such as Komtrax, KOM-MICS, AHS (Autonomous Haulage System), and Smart Construction. The construction equipment operational data, work site data, and field experience acquired through these systems have become part of its core competitiveness.
Based on these data assets, Komatsu has conducted AI empirical applications across various regions and business segments, creating use cases and promoting global experience sharing. At the same time, the company is strengthening talent development, including AI literacy training. Going forward, Komatsu plans to further accelerate these initiatives to drive global, full-value-chain business transformation and enhance customer value.

Since fiscal year 2023, Komatsu has been advancing AI application projects globally, creating and promoting use cases across various business areas. Through workshops, hands-on training, and regular global meetings held in different regions, the company shares application cases and challenges. This has resulted in extensive experience at each site, forming an initial collaborative framework to support global AI promotion.
Building on this foundation, Komatsu will further accelerate AI adoption company-wide and globally, preparing for the establishment of a Global Center of Excellence after 2027. At the same time, the company is steadily promoting AI adoption in Japan to solidify the groundwork for global expansion.
In terms of specific measures, Komatsu established a core department in Japan in April 2026 responsible for safely and efficiently advancing AI applications. In May of the same year, approximately 500 AI promotion leaders were selected. Going forward, these leaders will focus on solving on-site challenges, creating successful use cases, and strengthening the system to support global deployment. Throughout the AI adoption process, Komatsu will continuously enhance AI literacy among all employees and improve the system from the perspectives of information security and risk management.
Komatsu has previously promoted AI applications in business segments such as R&D, production, and service. Moving forward, the company will leverage this strengthened promotion system to extend practical experience across the entire value chain.
Among the AI application cases already implemented, the R&D phase has introduced generative AI to improve efficiency and quality in code understanding, code generation, code review, and test case creation. In the production area, using KOM-MICS data and AI technology, anomaly detection AI enables quality management and predictive maintenance, while image processing AI facilitates real-time digital collection of personnel and material information on the production floor, optimizing production planning. In the service business, Komatsu has launched an AI robot capable of cross-database searches of documents such as repair manuals and service bulletins, supporting natural language queries. This tool helps maintenance technicians and dealers quickly access technical information, improving service efficiency. The application is already in use in the United States, Europe, Australia, Central and South America, and Japan, and is beginning to expand to Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Additionally, by analyzing equipment operational data accumulated through the Komtrax system with AI, Komatsu enables parts life prediction, anomaly and fault detection, and reasonable estimation of overhaul cycles. This helps improve customer equipment uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and provide dealers with more professional service solutions.

Komatsu views AI as a core foundation for converting data and field experience into value, rather than merely a tool for efficiency improvement. This initiative aims to expand AI applications from individual business segments to the entire company and global scale. In the future, Komatsu plans to popularize AI applications across the full value chain, promoting the sharing and implementation of practical experience from each site worldwide, to continuously upgrade business processes, products, and services.
