en.Wedoany.com Reported - SemiFive, a custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design service provider, has secured mass production revenue from an overseas client for the first time since its inception. On June 26, the company announced that it had received a mass production purchase order (PO) worth approximately 11 billion KRW from a Japanese artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor company, involving AI semiconductors used in the high-performance computing (HPC) sector.

SemiFive's business model is similar to that of Broadcom and Marvell, customizing ASIC designs based on client needs. Once a design project enters mass production, the company generates mass production revenue in addition to development revenue. A SemiFive official stated that subsequent supply agreements are expected to continue. Previously, the company's mass production revenue was concentrated in the South Korean domestic market, with all of its approximately 3.5 billion KRW in mass production revenue in the first quarter of this year coming from domestic clients. SemiFive's South Korean clients include Hanwha Vision and Mobilint, for whom it manufactures and supplies Hanwha Vision's Wisenet 9 AI chips for security cameras, while also mass-producing Mobilint's first-generation edge AI chip, Aries.

SemiFive revealed that it has secured multiple ASIC design clients in Japan. A company official noted that as these clients complete their chip designs, additional mass production revenue opportunities are expected. The company's revenue target for this year is 200 billion KRW, representing an increase of approximately 66.7% compared to last year. First-quarter revenue was around 31.5 billion KRW, with overseas business accounting for 60% of total revenue. Going forward, SemiFive plans to focus on expanding its client base in overseas markets, including North America and Japan.
