en.Wedoany.com Reported - Germany’s Deutsche Telekom continues to push forward with broadband network expansion. The company reported that in May, it added 173,000 new fiber optic connections for households and businesses, bringing the total number of households and businesses that can opt for tariff plans with speeds of up to 2000 Mbit/s to 13.2 million.

Despite the gradual rollout of fiber optic networks, the majority of users still rely on traditional copper cables for fixed-line telephony and high-speed internet access. Currently, over 37 million households can enjoy connections with bandwidths of 100 Mbit/s or higher, and approximately 33 million households can use connections of 250 Mbit/s or higher. Among commonly used online services, Deutsche Telekom’s MagentaTV ranks first, with TV access typically bundled with fixed-line packages. Data shows that the service has gained market acceptance—not only during the football World Cup starting in June, but Deutsche Telekom’s TV service is also the only platform to broadcast all World Cup matches in full. The second to fifth positions are occupied by YouTube, Instagram, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Considering only upload traffic, cloud services dominate, with the top five being Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Teams, Apple iCloud, and WhatsApp Messenger.
It is important to note that high-speed internet does not come automatically. Although Deutsche Telekom continues to expand its fiber optic network, users in the region who wish to switch to faster internet access must actively order a corresponding tariff plan to migrate from DSL to fiber optics, and higher-tier contracts typically come with higher costs.
