Chery Malaysia's Assembly Plant in Banting Reaches Topping-Out Milestone

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first phase of Chery Smart Automotive Industrial Park in Banting, Selangor, Malaysia, held a topping-out ceremony on June 30, 2026, marking the completion of the main structure of the assembly plant. Covering an area of 200 acres with an investment of RM 2.2 billion, the industrial park broke ground in 2025.

Chery Malaysia is a subsidiary of China's Chery Holding Group. Upon completion, the industrial park will become Chery's largest production base in Malaysia, playing a key role in supporting its business growth in the local and ASEAN markets. Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari stated that driven by Chery Malaysia, the region will rapidly develop a new supply chain, creating more quality job opportunities for the people of Selangor. Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade, and Public Transport, Ng Sze Han, noted that the state government plans to build an automotive city spanning Serendah and Banting, centered around Chery's investment, integrating automakers, parts suppliers, R&D, and training institutions to form a complete supply chain system.

With the main structure completed, the plant will now enter the stages of interior finishing, system installation, and operational preparation, with production expected to commence next year. This will enhance the brand's capabilities in assembly, innovation, and customer delivery, supporting its multi-brand strategy under Chery, Omoda, and Jaecoo, further strengthening the automotive ecosystem. Chery Malaysia's Senior Director of Product Strategy and Automotive Sales, Chew Chee Ming, stated that this topping-out milestone reflects the company's confidence in the Malaysian market and its potential as a regional hub.
