UK's Laing O'Rourke Expands Prefabrication Plants in Q1 FY2028 on £17.2bn Order Book

Crown House Technologies Manufacturing (CHtM) will relocate to a larger facility in Smethwick, West Midlands, while Explore Manufacturing will add 3,200 square metres of flexible manufacturing space at its Explore Park site in Nottinghamshire. Both expansions are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2028.

Upon relocating to Smethwick, CHtM will gain the capacity for larger-scale mechanical and electrical module manufacturing. The additional 3,200 square metres at Explore Manufacturing will be used to expand flexible manufacturing capacity at its Nottinghamshire site. The funding for both investments is supported by the group's order book—Laing O'Rourke has set a record order book for the third consecutive year, currently standing at £17.2 billion. The group said the upgraded facilities will also accommodate further investment in automation and digitalisation to advance the modernisation of production processes.

Laing O'Rourke has not disclosed the specific investment amounts for the CHtM relocation and Explore Manufacturing expansion, nor has it provided detailed capacity figures. Both expansion projects are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2028, corresponding to a window from late 2027 to early 2028. The specific product lines of mechanical and electrical modules to be manufactured at CHtM's new Smethwick facility have also not been detailed at this stage.
