en.Wedoany.com Reported - US tech giant Dell Technologies is significantly expanding its local server manufacturing scale in India, with most servers now produced locally. This strategic shift is driven by the growing emphasis on data sovereignty and the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Venkat Sitaram, Senior Director and Country Head of Dell Technologies India's Infrastructure Solutions Group, told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that while localized production primarily targets the domestic Indian market, the company will consider exports when necessary. Sitaram stated that a significant portion of the company's product portfolio—covering both the Client Solutions Group and the Infrastructure Solutions Group—with most servers already manufactured in India, has participated in the Indian government's Production Linked Incentive scheme (PLI 1.0), is a major participant in the latest PLI 2.0, and will continue to serve local customers in line with "Make in India" requirements.

Indian enterprises are reassessing their cloud strategies, a trend that is significantly driving local infrastructure development. Companies are shifting to hybrid architectures, choosing to keep sensitive and critical workloads on-premises rather than fully relying on public clouds. Led by industries such as banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), telecommunications, healthcare, and government, the integration of AI with core business strategies is further accelerating the demand for robust local infrastructure. Regarding concerns that advanced AI systems might replace traditional IT and back-office jobs, Sitaram remains optimistic, believing that AI is not replacing jobs but rather driving the creation of more employment opportunities and prompting institutions and enterprises to place greater emphasis on skill development.

Dell has launched its next-generation data platform, PowerStore Elite, in India. This local storage solution is specifically designed to support complex AI workloads while ensuring enterprise data is securely stored within India. Sitaram described it as a "single solution" capable of handling both traditional and modern AI workloads. In addition to PowerStore Elite, Dell has introduced a broader AI infrastructure portfolio, including "Dell Cyber Detect" for AI-based ransomware detection at the storage layer and the integrated rack-scale AI system "Dell PowerRack."
