en.Wedoany.com Reported - The municipality of Muçum in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has improved water level information accuracy by 80% by deploying Hikvision's intelligent water level monitoring solution. The system integrates video imaging and millimeter-wave radar technology, enabling emergency teams to obtain high-precision water level data in real time and receive alerts when preset thresholds are triggered, thereby gaining more preparation time for flood response.

A Brazilian city accelerates flood response with Hikvision water level monitoring

Located along the Taquari River, Muçum experienced historic floods following continuous heavy rainfall in 2023 and 2024. According to a report by Médecins Sans Frontières, over 600,000 people were displaced in the region in 2024, and nearly all urban infrastructure was damaged. Local residents realized that traditional methods relying on manual observation and physical water level gauges could not provide the continuous, integrated, and real-time visibility required under extreme weather conditions.

To address this, Muçum partnered with system integrator Infosat and distributor Tecline to deploy Hikvision's intelligent water level monitoring solution. The solution integrates video imaging and millimeter-wave radar into a single device, allowing operators to visually monitor river conditions while receiving high-precision water level measurements. Unlike traditional water level gauges that need to be near the water surface, this radar-based system can measure water levels from up to 40 meters away. Its elevated installation helps ensure continuous operation during major floods, avoiding submersion or damage.

The solution offers millimeter-level accuracy, enabling emergency teams to detect minor changes in water levels and receive alerts when preset thresholds are reached. The device provides 4MP high-definition imaging, and 120 dB Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) helps maintain clear images under complex lighting conditions. An IP67-rated protective housing ensures reliable operation in harsh weather. Additionally, five Hikvision Network Speakers were installed in flood-prone communities to broadcast evacuation warnings and emergency notifications. The entire solution is managed through the HikCentral Professional platform, allowing operators to monitor water levels in real time, manage alerts, view video, and analyze historical data from a single platform.

Since deployment, Muçum has reported an 80% improvement in water level information accuracy compared to previous manual readings. Real-time monitoring and automatic alerts have helped emergency teams respond more proactively and improve communication with residents during critical moments.
