en.Wedoany.com Reported - Samsung Electronics and Orange Group have decided to expand their cooperation in the fields of virtualized RAN (vRAN) and Open RAN in Europe, based on a successful pilot project completed in 2023. The two parties have agreed to increase the number of site deployments by 2026.

Samsung's vRAN and Open RAN solutions achieved seamless integration in Orange's live network, delivering enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) and improved end-user experience. Their performance maturity and operational efficiency meet or exceed those of traditional RAN solutions.

Through this collaboration, Samsung and Orange have positioned vRAN and Open RAN as viable solutions for building sustainable networks. This open and flexible architecture enhances network resilience while enabling operators to select optimal solutions, thereby fostering innovation.

In the next phase of this cooperation, the two parties will integrate the latest processors into Orange's network. The specific deployment plan includes Samsung's AI-driven vRAN solution based on Intel Xeon 6 system-on-chip (SoC), running on a single Dell commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) server and powered by Wind River's cloud platform.

This upgraded solution enhances computing power, enabling a single server to support Orange's high-capacity configuration requirements, thereby reducing equipment footprint, improving performance, lowering power consumption, and simplifying operations. The solution also allows operators to flexibly manage network resources, allocating idle computing power to AI and edge applications on the live network, enabling a single server to handle both intensive workloads and AI tasks simultaneously.

Angelo Jeongho Park, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales and Marketing at Samsung Electronics' Network Business, stated that entering a new phase of cooperation with Orange demonstrates that Samsung's software-driven open solutions can deliver reliable network performance and services to operators and customers. Samsung is committed to using virtualized and open platforms as a foundation for innovation, leveraging AI to meet the high demands of future networks.

Laurent Leboucher, Chief Technology Officer of Orange Group, said that from the initial pilot project to the present, Samsung's virtualized RAN and Open RAN have demonstrated significant performance in Orange's network. With the advancement of new deployment plans, Orange will further accelerate network transformation and prepare for the introduction of AI.

Samsung Networks has launched 5G end-to-end solutions covering chipsets, radio equipment, and core networks. Its product portfolio includes dedicated RAN, vRAN, Open RAN, AI-RAN, core networks, private network solutions, and AI-driven automation tools and applications, providing network solutions for mobile operators.
