en.Wedoany.com Reported - Germany's battery storage market has recently seen the launch of several large-scale projects, with developers EnBW, VPI, Elements Green, and Eku Energy advancing new construction and acquisition plans respectively. These project announcements follow the German regulator's clarification of the grid fee exemption policy for storage, effective August 4, 2029, which ended months of market stagnation caused by uncertainty and opened up space for investment.

Traditional power plant operator EnBW has commenced construction of a 400MW/800MWh battery energy storage system at the Philippsburg Energy Park, its largest BESS project to date. The project is located near a large DC converter built by transmission system operator TransnetBW, which facilitates the transport of wind power from northern Germany to load centers in the southwest. EnBW made a final investment decision (FID) on the project late last year and began construction of a smaller 100MW/100MWh project in Marbach this April. Philippsburg Mayor Stefan Martus stated that the new BESS project will further strengthen the site's position as one of Germany's most important energy hubs. EnBW currently operates 20 smaller BESS projects in Germany, with a total installed capacity exceeding 100MWh.

Lithium-ion battery manufacturer Envision Energy has partnered with developer and independent power producer (IPP) Elements Green to deliver the 400MW/1600MWh Stadorf BESS project in northern Germany. Envision Energy will provide solutions based on its latest modular Gen 8 BESS platform, which was launched late last year. The supply agreement was announced last week at The Smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Germany.

BESS asset owner and operator Eku Energy has simultaneously entered the German market by acquiring a 400MW/1,600MWh project, matching the scale of the Standorf BESS project. Located in the municipality of Ramsloh in Lower Saxony, northwestern Germany, the project will provide black start capability through direct connection to the transmission grid. It is currently in an advanced stage of development and is scheduled to commence commercial operations by the end of 2029.

VPI, a power company backed by energy and commodity firm Vitol, has reached a final investment decision (FID) and begun initial works on a 144MWh project in Pasewalk, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northeastern Germany. Lithium-ion battery manufacturer CATL provides the BESS technology, Wood Group supplies engineering services, and Intec Energy Solutions serves as the balance of plant (BOP) contractor. The company announced its entry into the German market last year through a partnership with developer Noveria.
