en.Wedoany.com Reported - The latest Critical Skills List released by South Africa's Department of Home Affairs reveals that the country still faces a severe shortage of talent in the fields of information technology and cybersecurity, providing a clear pathway for foreign professionals with relevant skills to apply for critical skills work visas.

According to the visa regulations of the Department of Home Affairs, applicants must select an occupation category from this latest list and provide materials that demonstrate their eligibility for that category. The critical skills work visa also serves as a pathway to long-term immigration, allowing foreign nationals who meet certain conditions, such as having a permanent job offer or possessing special skills and qualifications, to apply for permanent residency in South Africa.
The 10 technology-related occupations listed include: ICT Systems Analyst, responsible for evaluating ICT systems and recommending improvements or new system development; Data Scientist, who collects, analyzes, and transforms large volumes of data using tools such as SAS, R, and Python; Software Developer, responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications and systems; Programmer Analyst, engaged in the design, testing, implementation, and support of software applications and systems; Developer Programmer, responsible for interpreting technical designs, writing code, and maintaining software applications; Multimedia Specialist, who creates digital content, multimedia systems, animations, videos, graphics, and interactive platforms; Applications Programmer, who writes and maintains software applications and operating systems; Computer Quality Assurance Analyst, responsible for testing software and operating systems to ensure performance and reliability; Computer Network and Systems Engineer, who plans, deploys, tests, and manages computer networks, systems, and infrastructure; and ICT Security Specialist, responsible for managing security policies, emergency procedures, and recovery strategies to protect ICT systems.
These positions all fall under the ICT and related technology categories, with most requiring applicants to hold at least an NQF Level 7 bachelor's degree or advanced diploma, and, where applicable, registration certificates from relevant professional bodies. While being included on the list does not guarantee automatic visa approval, it provides a recognized pathway for eligible foreign professionals, provided all application requirements of the Department of Home Affairs are met.
