Vietnam's Khai Long - Ca Mau Wind Power Plant Phase I Breaks Ground with Investment Over VND 6.32 Trillion

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 1, the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province held a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of the Khai Long - Ca Mau Tourism Area Wind Power Plant Project in Di Tho Village, Cape Commune, with a total investment exceeding VND 6.32 trillion.

According to Ms. Pham Thi Mai Phuong, Deputy General Director of BCG Energy Joint Stock Company, the project investor, Phase I has an installed capacity of 100 megawatts (MW), covering a total area of 480.73 hectares, including 454 hectares of sea area and 26.73 hectares of land area. The project plans to install 16 wind turbines with a unit capacity of approximately 6.25 MW, along with one 35-110 kV substation and a 110 kV double-circuit transmission line approximately 24 kilometers long.

The project is implemented by BCG - Khai Long 1 Wind Power Joint Stock Company, with a construction period from now until April 2028, and is expected to commence commercial operation in May 2028. Upon completion, it is projected to supply approximately 253 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually to Vietnam's national grid, while contributing about VND 40 billion to VND 50 billion per year to the local budget. This will help ensure energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and meet the demand for double-digit economic growth in Ca Mau Province.

Ca Mau Province, with its long coastline and favorable wind speed conditions, possesses unique natural advantages for developing wind power. The province regards clean energy as a key driver for economic growth, aiming to achieve growth targets, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and ensure national energy security.

In the first half of 2026, Ca Mau Province has successively broken ground on several wind power projects, including the Dong Hai 13 Wind Power Plant Project in Long Dien Commune with an installed capacity of 100 MW; the Japan - Bac Lieu Wind Power Plant Project in Dong Hai Commune with an installed capacity of 50 MW and an investment of nearly VND 2.5 trillion; and Phase I of the Dong Hai 3 Wind Power Plant Project with an installed capacity of 50 MW and an investment of nearly VND 5.4 trillion.
