en.Wedoany.com Reported - Statkraft, Europe's largest renewable energy producer and a Norwegian state-owned energy company, has received over €38 million in funding for the modernization of wind farms in Spain, with total related investments exceeding €300 million.

These funds will be used to upgrade wind power facilities with a total installed capacity exceeding 322 megawatts, and all selected projects will also be equipped with battery energy storage systems. In Galicia, Statkraft plans to modernize the Serras Faro-Farelo wind complex, located between the provinces of Lugo and Pontevedra, by dismantling 80 wind turbines that have been in operation since 2005, replacing them with 25 next-generation units, and installing a battery energy storage system with a power capacity of 127 MW and an energy capacity of 254 MWh.
In Andalusia, the company will modernize the La Herrería and Pasada de Tejeda wind farms in the province of Cádiz, which together form the Aerosur complex. This project will reduce the number of wind turbines from 34 to a maximum of 9, slightly increasing power generation capacity, while planning to install a 13 MW, 38 MWh battery system.
In Castile and León, the Páramo de Poza I and II wind farms in the municipality of Poza de la Sal, province of Burgos, will be modernized. The existing 130 wind turbines will be replaced by 14 larger, more efficient units, maintaining a total installed capacity of 100 MW.
Statkraft has prior experience with such projects in Spain. It is currently executing the modernization of the Montes de Cierzo wind farm in Navarre, with an investment of approximately €100 million, planning to replace dozens of wind turbines with four new turbines and install a battery system. Its first such project was the Malpica wind farm in Galicia, completed in 2017, which reduced the number of wind turbines from 69 to 7, doubling annual electricity generation to 65.9 GWh, enough to meet the average annual electricity needs of approximately 18,000 households.
The company stated that all projects submitted for this tender have secured financing, and this support aligns with its strategy to promote wind farm modernization and hybridization with energy storage systems, aiming to contribute to decarbonization and energy transition goals.
