The attending academicians and experts highly praised the achievements of the Huaneng 650°C coal-fired power generation demonstration project, unanimously agreeing that the overall design schemes for the boiler, steam turbine, and the entire project are generally reasonable and feasible. The research and development of HT700 series high-temperature materials, along with their engineering application foundation, are solid, and all major performance indicators are advanced. This marks a new milestone in the parameters, efficiency, and coal consumption of coal-fired units, serving as an excellent demonstration of deep integration between technological innovation and industrial innovation.
The world's first 650°C high-efficiency ultra-supercritical coal-fired power generation unit—Phase IV of Huaneng Yuhuan Power Plant—commenced construction on November 8, 2025, and has now entered a critical phase. The main steam and reheat steam temperatures of this project both reach 650°C, with a designed main steam pressure of 35 MPa, representing the highest parameters for coal-fired units globally.
On the day of the review meeting, the project achieved a major breakthrough: the first high-pressure inner casing and medium-pressure control valve of the steam turbine were successfully cast, and the first batch of high-temperature alloy seamless tubes completed the full-process production, inspection, and acceptance. This signifies that China has fully mastered the complete set of production technologies for core high-temperature materials used in 650°C high-parameter coal-fired power generation, achieving independent control over key links in the relevant industrial chain and filling a gap in the global field of high-end coal-fired power special materials.
