en.Wedoany.com Reported - A geological survey for the Cumberland Sports Village project in the UK has commenced in Workington, preparing for the subsequent main construction phase.

Specialist contractor RG Civil Engineering, in collaboration with survey and consultancy firm Curtins, is responsible for carrying out the survey, which is expected to last several weeks.

Cumberland Council stated that efforts will be made to minimize the impact of this work on the surrounding area, and no road closures are anticipated.

Councillor Mark Fryer, Leader of Cumberland Council, noted that this is a necessary first step to make the Cumberland Sports Village project a reality. While such work may not be visible, it ensures that the project team fully understands the site conditions before construction begins. By conducting the survey in advance, the project can be planned with greater confidence and developed in the safest and most beneficial manner.

The Cumberland Sports Village is a flagship project in Workington, supported by the UK Government's Towns Fund, Cumberland Council, and the Football Foundation.

The final version of the project was approved in May. According to the plan, the Borough Park football ground will undergo a complete redevelopment, with the team temporarily relocating to the nearby Derwent Park rugby ground during construction.

In the future, both teams will move into the new venue. The venue will feature modern stands, with a capacity expanded to 3,700 people and the potential to increase to 5,000, along with new facilities. The project also includes community sports facilities.

The project will be managed and delivered by Cumberland Council.
