Tunnel Engineering

Tunnel engineering refers to the excavation and construction of passages in underground or mountainous areas for transportation, energy, drainage, or municipal pipelines. It covers geological surveying, design, excavation construction, support structures, ventilation and drainage, and safety monitoring. Depending on the construction method, it mainly includes open-cut method, shield method, and mining (drill-and-blast) method. Tunnel engineering plays a key role as critical infrastructure in urban transportation, railway and metro, water conservancy and hydropower, and energy pipeline construction.
