Pumped Storage Power Station

A Pumped Storage Power Station is an energy storage power facility that uses the height difference between upper and lower reservoirs to store and generate electricity. During low electricity demand periods, water is pumped to the upper reservoir; during peak demand, water is released to generate power. It provides peak shaving, frequency regulation, phase adjustment, backup power, and black start support. It covers upper reservoirs, lower reservoirs, water conveyance systems, pump-turbines, motor-generators, underground powerhouses, control systems, grid dispatching, and operation and maintenance. With the growth of renewable energy capacity and the increasing need for power system flexibility, pumped storage power stations are becoming an important regulating power source for new power systems.
