en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Additive Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (AMCRC) in Australia has launched a STARTER project grant program totaling AUD 3.25 million, providing financial support for manufacturing SMEs and startups to adopt additive manufacturing technologies.

The program operates on a 1:1 matching fund basis, with enterprises eligible to apply for AMCRC co-funding ranging from AUD 20,000 to AUD 75,000, corresponding to total project values between AUD 40,000 and AUD 150,000. Successful applicants will collaborate with AMCRC's national research network to conduct industry-led research projects lasting from 3 months to 1 year.

AMCRC noted that projects can focus on areas such as product redesign, rapid prototyping, on-demand manufacturing, supply chain optimization, and sustainability improvements.

Simon Marriott, Managing Director of AMCRC, stated that while many SMEs and startups recognize the potential of additive manufacturing, they lack the entry point or capability to assess its commercial value. The program aims to provide a practical pathway, helping enterprises collaborate with researchers to test ideas and evaluate the effectiveness of additive manufacturing in improving efficiency, flexibility, and competitiveness.

AMCRC noted that approximately 95% of manufacturing enterprises in Australia are SMEs, which are often constrained by resources and investment, making it difficult to participate in large collaborative research projects. The program is specifically designed to address the needs of such enterprises, helping them explore the commercial applications of additive manufacturing. Marriott stated that additive manufacturing is increasingly seen as a strategic capability for manufacturers, enabling reduced lead times, overcoming production bottlenecks, enhancing supply chain resilience, and accelerating time to market.
