3D Systems Secures Additional $9 Million Metal 3D Printing Contract from U.S. Air Force

This contract represents the next phase of the program, bringing cumulative funding to $27.4 million and extending the technology validation work by two years.

The program was launched in 2023, focusing on developing large-format metal direct printing technology suitable for high-temperature, high-speed flight environments, with the goal of enhancing large-scale, high-volume additive manufacturing capabilities for critical flight components. Related research, development, and validation work will continue at 3D Systems' facilities in San Diego, California, and Rock Hill, South Carolina.

According to U.S. Department of Defense data, the program's initial contract value was approximately $10.76 million, awarded on a cost-plus-fixed-fee basis, primarily supporting large-format additive manufacturing capabilities related to hypersonic applications. 3D Systems received an additional $7.65 million in 2025, and with this latest $9 million increment, the program remains in the technology development and demonstration phase, with no volume production procurement arrangements disclosed yet.
