Bambu Lab Releases the 55W CO2 Laser R1 Cutter

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, Bambu Lab officially released the R1 laser cutter, the company's first standalone laser cutting and engraving device and its first independent product line beyond 3D printing equipment. The R1 is equipped with a 55W CO2 laser, has a working area of 600 × 300 mm, can cut or engrave wood, acrylic, leather, paper, and fabric, and supports engraving on glass, stone, and coated metal surfaces.

The R1 has a maximum processing speed of 1000 mm/s and can cut through 18 mm black walnut plywood or 20 mm acrylic in a single pass. When paired with the automatic feed conveyor module, the device can continuously process sheets up to 3 meters long; it also supports rotary axis processing for cylindrical and curved workpieces. For different processing tasks, Bambu Lab also offers short-focus, medium-focus, and long-focus lens configurations, with the short-focus lens included with the machine and the medium-focus and long-focus lenses available as optional accessories.

The device is equipped with an automatic optical path calibration system that automatically completes laser optical path alignment, and combines with a vision positioning system for workpiece recognition and processing positioning. Public specifications show that the R1 is equipped with dual cameras, dual LiDAR, and dual encoders, achieving positioning accuracy of up to 0.2 mm; when using official materials, the system can automatically identify the material type and call up the corresponding processing parameters. The device also supports transparent acrylic processing, contour cutting, and curved surface engraving.

The R1 features an enclosed body and a through-flow air duct, can be connected to the E1 Pro air purifier to handle fumes and odors generated during processing, and has passed Class 1 laser safety certification. Bambu Lab also offers expansion modules for the device, including a feeder, rotary axis, Vision Encoder, lenses of different focal lengths, and an automatic fire suppression system, forming a supporting system that covers everything from sheet feeding and positioning to cutting and exhaust gas treatment.

The R1 opened for pre-order on September 22, priced at $2,499 in the U.S. market and €2,499 in the EU market, with the first batch planned to ship in October; the starting price in the Chinese market is 14,999 yuan. Bambu Lab's previous core products were concentrated in consumer and desktop 3D printing equipment, and with the release of the R1, its hardware product line has added a standalone laser cutting and engraving device.
