Qualcomm Releases Two 2nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Flagship Mobile Platforms

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled two flagship mobile platforms at the 2026 Snapdragon Summit held in Hawaii, USA: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Both platforms are built on a 2nm process and feature the new generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU, targeting next-generation flagship smartphones.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is equipped with a Qualcomm Oryon CPU featuring a maximum clock speed of 5GHz. According to generational data released by Qualcomm, CPU performance has improved by 13% over the previous generation, Adreno GPU performance has increased by 44% with a 40% improvement in power efficiency, and Hexagon NPU performance has risen by 35% with up to 33% improvement in performance per watt. The platform also introduces Adreno Matrix Cores and Adreno Neural Fusion, integrating AI-dedicated compute units directly into the graphics processing architecture for mobile AI graphics tasks such as super resolution, frame generation, and image reconstruction.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 integrates the X105 5G Modem-RF System, featuring peak downlink speeds of 14.8Gbps and uplink speeds of 4.2Gbps, and supports 5G NR-NTN satellite communication. The FastConnect 8800 mobile connectivity system supports Wi-Fi 8, Wi-Fi 7, and Wi-Fi 6, with peak speeds reaching 11.6Gbps. The imaging system supports 8K 60fps and 4K 240fps video capture, and enables three 64-megapixel cameras to operate simultaneously.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, also released during the same period, likewise adopts a 2nm process and Qualcomm Oryon CPU with a maximum clock speed of 5GHz. According to Qualcomm's published data, this platform delivers a 10% improvement in CPU performance and 37% improvement in power efficiency over the previous generation, a 35% increase in GPU performance with 40% improvement in power efficiency, and a 14% improvement in Hexagon NPU performance. Its connectivity platform also employs the X105 5G Modem-RF and FastConnect 8800, supporting peak 5G downlink speeds of 14.8Gbps and 11.6Gbps Wi-Fi connectivity.

Qualcomm has established two tiers of flagship mobile platform configurations this time. Among them, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 adds Adreno Neural Fusion, Matrix Cores, and higher-spec imaging and AI processing capabilities; the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 retains the Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU, and the same generation of 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity platforms.
