en.Wedoany.com Reported - Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones, Subtel) has announced the addition of the W band (71-114.5 GHz) to the technical standards for fixed satellite services, and will add the V band (40-75 GHz) in the coming days.

The regulator stated that this move will expand network capacity, improve data transmission, and strengthen satellite connectivity, especially in remote or rural areas with limited coverage of terrestrial infrastructure such as fiber optics or 5G. This decision is part of a local plan to promote infrastructure deployment and accelerate the adoption of new technologies. In its resolution, the authority argued that its responsibilities include promoting technological neutrality and opening new spectrum bands to facilitate the deployment of next-generation high-capacity satellite systems. The regulation also addresses the need to avoid interference with other services during installation, operation, and utilization.

The measure applies to existing companies already operating in Chile as well as those that may join in the future. Undersecretary of Telecommunications Romina Garrido stated that this initiative aims to expand competition in Chile's satellite market, extend digital highways, enable satellite services to operate more efficiently, support greater traffic, and provide users with more stable connections, higher speeds, lower network response times, and more resilient connectivity during emergencies or disruptions.
