en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sulzer will supply PyroCon™ pyrolysis gas condensation technology for Vitol's new plastic waste processing plant at the Port of Rotterdam. Operated by Vitol's proprietary waste processing unit (WPU), the new facility is located adjacent to Vitol's VPR refinery in the Port of Rotterdam and is designed to handle large volumes of plastic waste. WPU uses a proprietary pyrolysis process to convert waste plastics into gas, and Sulzer's PyroCon™ technology then rapidly cools and condenses these vapors into a liquid feedstock that can be used to produce new plastic materials.
Sulzer will also provide engineering services to support project execution, delivering a complete skid-mounted modular solution. Basic engineering for the project was completed in the first quarter of 2026, with the first skid deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, in line with the overall project timeline. Sulzer's solution for Vitol's new plant can process a variety of materials, including plastic waste with varying levels of contamination, and offers flexibility to adapt to changing operating conditions and future capacity requirements. By rapidly cooling and condensing gases produced during the pyrolysis process, PyroCon™ technology provides a stable and reliable feedstock for subsequent use.
Tim Schulten, President of Sulzer's Chemtech division, stated that the team is proud to be a strategic partner for Vitol, and that after years of development, such milestone projects confirm the industrial potential of this unique solution. Tom Baker, Vitol's Global Naphtha Head and Middle East Head, noted that plastic waste is a global issue and large-scale pyrolysis is a potential solution; Vitol is pleased to collaborate with Sulzer on the development of the new Rotterdam plant to supply recycled feedstock to the plastics industry.
