en.Wedoany.com Reported - Baleària Canarias has put into operation in the Canary Islands a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ship with the largest cargo capacity, named "Josefina de la Torre," featuring 4,000 linear meters of loading capacity and capable of accommodating 280 trucks, aimed at increasing weekly freight traffic between the archipelago and the port of Cádiz, Spain.

The company already operates another dedicated cargo vessel, "Villa de Tazacorte," on the peninsula route, as well as the passenger-cargo ferry "Volcán de Tinamar." With the addition of the new ship, Baleària Canarias will have three weekly sailings connecting Cádiz with Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, plus two weekly sailings connecting Santa Cruz de La Palma and Arrecife.

Company President Adolfo Utor stated that through this service arrangement and the inclusion of a high-capacity vessel, Baleària Canarias has consolidated its position as a benchmark operator in the Ro-Ro transport sector and has become the leading shipping company for the primary sector, providing reliable and sufficient service guarantees for the export of fruits and vegetables from the Canary Islands, particularly bananas and tomatoes.

Built in 2023, the "Josefina de la Torre" is 209 meters long, combining high capacity, advanced technology, and energy efficiency. This ship also has the highest number of refrigerated containers in operation in the Canary Islands, with its reefer plug capacity increased to 230 to ensure the refrigeration needs of agricultural and perishable goods. This dedicated cargo vessel will provide weekly service to Tenerife, La Palma, and Gran Canaria. The ship is named after Josefina de la Torre, a member of the "Generation of '27" and one of the most versatile and distinctive figures in the 20th-century literary and artistic scene of the Canary Islands.

The other dedicated cargo ship, "Villa de Tazacorte," provides weekly service from Cádiz to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and La Palma. In terms of mixed passenger-cargo services, the ferry "Volcán de Tinamar" offers weekly connections to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, departing on Tuesdays on the Cádiz-Arrecife-Las Palmas de Gran Canaria route and from the peninsula to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Saturdays, to strengthen territorial connectivity and passenger mobility.
