en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially handed over the expanded SCADA/EMS (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/Energy Management System) control room at the 330kV transmission substation in Gwagwalada to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), a move aimed at improving the country's grid management capabilities.
The facility houses newly installed SCADA-EMS and telecommunications systems designed to support real-time grid management and system operations. It will serve as a temporary control center to enhance grid management until the permanent National Control Center (NCC) building is completed.
TCN Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sule Abdulaziz stated at the event that the facility will serve as NISO's temporary operational base, enabling the organization to oversee grid operations more efficiently and reliably before the permanent NCC becomes operational. Abdulaziz, represented by TCN's General Manager of Project Coordination Aminu Tahir, said the completion of the facility marks not only the end of a construction project but also the beginning of a new phase in grid management and national power coordination. He described the moment as a defining moment for the company and a significant milestone in the collective effort to strengthen Nigeria's transmission infrastructure.
"The building was designed to provide temporary accommodation for the newly acquired SCADA-EMS and telecommunications systems, as well as the dedicated operations team. It will now serve as NISO's temporary operational base, enabling the organization to oversee grid operations more efficiently and reliably before the permanent NCC becomes operational," Abdulaziz said. He added that handing over the facility to NISO is believed to be key to achieving better grid management, improved system reliability, and better service for Nigerians. He also thanked the World Bank for its continued support throughout the project.
Kabir Adamu, General Manager of System Planning, representing NISO Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Abdu Bello, stated that the organization will manage the facility responsibly to support efficient grid operations and pledged continued cooperation to advance the national power sector. He commended TCN's leadership for completing the project and noted that the handover is not just a transfer of infrastructure but a key step in enhancing the country's grid operational capabilities.
TCN Project Manager Samuel Fakinlade explained at the event that once the permanent NCC building is completed, the equipment and personnel currently housed in the facility will be relocated, and the building will be returned to TCN.
