en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mineração Rio do Norte (MRN) has renewed its ASI Performance Standard and ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) certifications, awarded by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), an international organization that sets sustainability standards for the aluminum industry. This certification renewal confirms that the company continues to meet global performance requirements in environmental, social, and governance aspects, and ensures the traceability of bauxite produced in its operations in western Pará state.

The certification renewal was obtained following an independent audit conducted by Bureau Veritas Certification (BVC), an ASI-accredited entity. During the assessment, processes related to environmental management, corporate governance, relationships with riverside communities and quilombola communities, mine rehabilitation, risk management, and chain of custody controls were reviewed.

MRN, which has been ASI-certified since 2021, further emphasizes its commitment to mining based on transparency, social and environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement through this recertification.

According to Wvagno Ferreira, MRN's General Manager of Management, Performance, Risk, and Internal Controls, the Chain of Custody certification ensures that all bauxite production is properly monitored and segregated throughout the entire production chain. The Performance certification, in turn, demonstrates compliance with standards related to the environment, human rights, health and safety, ethics, and governance. He stated that this recertification proves the company follows international sustainability standards and traces all bauxite production from extraction to shipment, providing greater security, transparency, and reliability for the entire production chain.

According to the company, this certification renewal is the result of improvements in its internal processes, including enhanced risk and crisis management, improved corporate governance, increased information transparency, and strengthened relationships with communities and other stakeholders. Additionally, the "MRN for Everyone (MRN pra Todos)" project, aimed at dialogue with stakeholders, and human rights due diligence were also taken into consideration.

For the company's CEO, Guido Germani, maintaining the certification demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to responsible operations in the Amazon region. He stated that operating in the Amazon requires continuous responsibility, and this certification shows that the company is constantly improving its processes and aligning its operations with major international sustainability standards.

During the audit, aspects such as ongoing relationships with neighboring communities, investments in reforestation and mine rehabilitation, governance and integrity systems, risk management, and bauxite traceability from extraction to shipment were analyzed, ensuring transparency and reliability throughout the entire production chain.
