en.Wedoany.com Reported - TIM and EPR Litoral Pioneiro are testing a traffic light system managed by a 4G network on the BR-277 highway in the Serra do Mar section of Paraná, Brazil.

TIM and EPR test 4G traffic lights

The test project includes 20 smart traffic light devices distributed on both sides of the road at the 40-kilometer mark of BR-277. These lights can indicate real-time road traffic conditions through color changes, triggered by the EPR Litoral Pioneiro operations control center via the 4G network deployed by TIM. The indicators switch between orange and red: orange indicates major restrictions on the section, such as lane congestion, poor visibility, or partial lane closures; red signals immediate danger, including blockades, prohibitions, and serious accident risks, requiring drivers to slow down.

According to the partners, the system is currently being promoted to users. The second phase plans to install 200 lights within an 8-kilometer stretch of the Serra do Mar section of BR-277 by the end of this year. After the research phase concludes, the system will be deployed at specific locations along the 606-kilometer highway under EPR Litoral Pioneiro's concession. TIM stated that after testing is completed, the initiative may be expanded to other federal highways, subject to approval from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

TIM Executive Business Advisor Paulo Humberto Gouvêa noted in a statement that adopting connected smart infrastructure is essential for achieving the project's goals, and TIM's connectivity ensures real-time communication between devices, even under adverse conditions such as heavy fog.
