en.Wedoany.com Reported - American Airlines will resume nonstop flights between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Tokyo Narita International Airport in March 2027, marking the carrier's first restart of this transpacific service since its suspension in 2020. The route will be operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft, configured with 30 Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats.

The route launch ceremony was held at the Flag Hall of O'Hare's Terminal 3, which handles over 500 daily flights and serves more than 40,000 passengers per day. American Airlines CEO Robert Isom stated at the ceremony that the new route leverages the airline's century-long operations in Chicago and its strong partnership with Japan Airlines, aiming to strengthen the operational hub, expand customer travel options, and maintain Chicago's global competitiveness.
Under a commercial agreement signed by the two airlines, they will coordinate flight operations to enhance the travel experience and strengthen air connectivity between North America and East Asia. Flight schedules are specifically timed to connect with Japan Airlines' onward flights to Asian destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, and Ho Chi Minh City, facilitating passenger transfers.
Additionally, American Airlines will add two new domestic routes from Chicago O'Hare: one to Charlottesville, Virginia, launching in November, and another to Ontario, California, launching in December.
