en.Wedoany.com Reported - For the first time under Germany's new supply chain law, an Indonesian community has filed a formal complaint with the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control against Heidelberg Materials' cement plant and limestone quarry project in Central Java. The complainants allege that the company failed to adequately assess and mitigate potential ecological and human rights harms in the Kendeng Mountains. The complaint also involves Indocement and its local subsidiary PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa. Germany's new supply chain law aims to ensure respect for human rights within the supply chains of German companies.

The complainants argue that the project could destroy the rare karst ecosystem of the Kendeng Mountains and harm the livelihoods of local indigenous people. Bambang Sutikyo, one of the complainants, stated that if the project proceeds, it will lead to ecological disaster, poverty, and human rights violations.

Heidelberg Materials responded that affected communities had the opportunity to express their concerns to PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa during the project permitting process, and that feedback has been incorporated into the project planning. The company added that no final decision has been made regarding the project's implementation.
