Hartzell receives STC for Cessna 180 Frontier propeller

The newly approved Frontier propeller is an 88-inch, two-blade aluminum propeller featuring an aluminum hub and scimitar-shaped aluminum blades. Hartzell stated that the installation kit weighs 55.4 pounds and is approved for Continental O-470 A, J, K, L, R, and S engine models. The company noted that the propeller has no RPM restrictions.

JJ Frigge, President of Hartzell Propeller, said the Skywagon community has been seeking ways to improve performance without downtime or engine upgrade costs, and the Frontier is designed to help pilots get airborne faster, climb better from short runways, and improve the aircraft's acoustic signature. He noted that this is particularly attractive for floatplane operators and pilots flying in demanding environments such as Alaska.

The STC kit includes a polished spinner and FAA-approved documentation. Hartzell stated that the propeller is covered by its Top Prop warranty before its first overhaul. According to the company, the Frontier can improve ground roll, total takeoff distance, and climb performance by up to 5%.

The Frontier offers Cessna Skywagon operators a new option within the Hartzell Top Prop series. Additionally, the company has already obtained Voyager propeller STCs for multiple Cessna models, including the Cessna 180, 182, 185, 206, and T206 fleets.
