en.Wedoany.com Reported - Gulfstream announced on June 10 that it has delivered its 100th flagship business jet, the Gulfstream G700, while simultaneously achieving its 100th city-pair speed record. The aircraft flew from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) to San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) in 4 hours and 36 minutes, with an average speed of Mach 0.91.

This speed record demonstrates that Gulfstream is leveraging the G700's exceptionally high cruise speed to drive market differentiation, helping maintain its competitive edge over the Bombardier Global 7500/8000 in the ultra-long-range business jet leadership race. According to Gulfstream Newsroom, the record-breaking flight from SAV to SJC took 4 hours and 36 minutes. The aircraft then flew from SJC to Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey, also at an average Mach 0.91, completing the journey in 4 hours and 14 minutes. These flight speeds approach the aircraft's maximum operating speed of Mach 0.935, exceeding its standard cruise speed.

Gulfstream President Mark Burns stated that as G700 deliveries increase, customer demand is also growing, driven by investments from Gulfstream and its parent company General Dynamics in next-generation manufacturing technologies and facilities. In November 2024, the model had already achieved its 65th record. The latest record flight from Savannah to Honolulu took 8 hours and 52 minutes, using a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend. Burns noted that the G700 demonstrates a unique combination of speed, range, and cabin size during these record flights.

The G700's performance stems from the Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engine, which combines high power output with exceptional efficiency, enabling it to cruise at Mach 0.90 with a maximum range of 6,650 nautical miles (12,316 kilometers). According to Gulfstream data, the G700 specifications include: maximum range of 7,750 nautical miles (14,353 kilometers), high-speed cruise maximum range of 6,650 nautical miles (12,316 kilometers); maximum speed of Mach 0.935; cruise speed of Mach 0.85 (for maximum range) or Mach 0.90 (for maximum speed); takeoff distance of 5,995 feet (1,827 meters); initial cruise altitude of 41,000 feet (12,497 meters), maximum climb to 51,000 feet (15,545 meters); cabin pressure altitude of 2,840 feet (866 meters); seating for 19 passengers or 13 in sleeper configuration, with up to five living areas; Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engine with maximum takeoff thrust of 18,250 pounds-force (81.18 kilonewtons). The aircraft flies at an altitude of 51,000 feet (15,454 meters), avoiding traffic congestion and turbulence.

The G700 cabin can be pressurized to an altitude equivalent to 2,916 feet (889 meters), which Gulfstream claims is the best in its class, with all cabin air being fresh air. The cabin features five living areas, including a dedicated private meeting room and a master suite with a shower. The manufacturer uses recycled items and renewable resource materials for the interior, with 20 large oval windows and a revolutionary lighting setup. The aircraft features a Symmetry Flight Deck, equipped with active control sidesticks, large touchscreen displays, and the Honeywell Primus Epic avionics system, incorporating next-generation flight management systems (NGFMS) and Smartview Synthetic Vision. The Predictive Landing Performance System assists pilots in flying efficiently and safely. Over 700 pilots have received training and type ratings from FlightSafety International.

The G700's unique capabilities have attracted several celebrities as buyers. In 2024, Jeff Bezos purchased a G700 with serial number 87020 and registration N11AF, registered under TVPX Aircraft Solutions Inc. as trustee. The aircraft arrived from SAV at Charleston International Airport (CHS) before flying to its base at Miami Opa-locka Executive Airport (OPF). On Bezos's first use of the aircraft, it flew a short 30-minute flight to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) in Florida, returned to Miami after a 20-minute ground stop. Since then, he has used the aircraft for long-haul flights, with Olbia/Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) in Italy being a frequent destination. The billionaire already owned two Gulfstream G650ERs, both registered under his holding company Poplar Glen LLC, when he purchased the G700.

The midsize Gulfstream G280 also boasts speed advantages, with a long-range cruise speed of 613.8 miles per hour (987.7 kilometers per hour), a range of 3,600 nautical miles (6,667 kilometers), a high-speed cruise of 644.5 miles per hour (1,037.2 kilometers per hour), and a top speed of Mach 0.85, making it the world's fastest midsize private jet. The G280 was originally developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in 2009, replacing the Gulfstream G200. It is powered by two Honeywell HTF7250G engines, each producing 7,624 pounds-force (33.91 kilonewtons) of thrust. The cabin measures 25.1 feet (7.7 meters) in length and 6.1 feet (1.85 meters) in height, accommodating 10 passenger seats or 5 passenger sleeper berths, featuring a PlaneView280™ cockpit with the Honeywell Primus Epic® integrated avionics system and an Enhanced Vision System (EVS II).
