en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Malaysian federal government, through the Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation, has approved 46 infrastructure projects for the state of Sarawak, totaling RM7.3 billion (approximately USD1.63 billion), covering flood mitigation, raw water, water supply, and sewage systems. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Water Transformation, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, disclosed this information during an inspection of the spiral pump construction site at the Miri Lutong Bridge head on July 4, 2026.
According to the disclosure, the 46 projects include 29 raw water projects, 6 water supply projects, and 11 sewage service projects; among them, 33 are continuation projects (RM7.03 billion) and 13 are new projects (RM273 million); 29 are directly funded by the federal government (RM3.834 billion) and 17 are federal loans (RM3.473 billion). As of June 30, 2026, 25 projects are in the preparatory stages of design, land acquisition, and procurement, 14 are under construction, and 7 have been completed.
To accelerate progress, the federal and state governments have jointly established a project coordination task force, co-chaired by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation and the Deputy Secretary of Sarawak, which has held three meetings to date. The task force has achieved several advancements, including streamlining federal loan and state fiscal allocation processes, obtaining cabinet approval for Phase II of the Kuching City flood mitigation project with an extension to the Semayang area, securing site selection approval from the State Planning Authority for the Limbang flood mitigation project, and reducing the tender-to-award cycle to three months. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that efforts will continue with a rhythm of "quick-start projects to address urgent needs, large-scale projects to tackle root causes," to build a more robust water security and flood mitigation system for Sarawak.
